Structural analysis: The word "infected" performs a complete agent-victim inversion in a single term. The Triangular Trade — designed, operated, and profited from by the sixteen signatory powers for 300 years — is recast as a pathogen that has contaminated African territory. The powers who created the condition become the immune response. The territories and populations who were the targets of extraction become the diseased zone requiring intervention.
